Richmond Mom Who Left Newborn in Dumpster to Serve 5 Years

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - A Richmond mother convicted of leaving her newborn baby to die in a dumpster has been sentenced to five years in prison.

On May 1st, a jury recommended a sentence of seven years imprisonment for Robinson. On Wednesday, the presiding judge sentenced her to seven years with two years suspended.

28-year-old Shavaughn Robinson was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder by a grand jury in May 2013. She had previously been charged with felony concealment of a body.

The baby was found in a dumpster near the intersection of Monument and Allen Avenues last May, near Robinson's former workplace.

The infant, a baby girl, was later pronounced dead; the Medical Examiner's Office then ruled the infant's death a homicide.
