On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Education added 12 colleges and universities to the growing list of educational institutions being investigated for how they handle sexual assault complaints. The University of Richmond was among those added.
In May, the Department released to the public a list of schools under investigation for possible violations of Title IX, which prohibits gender discrimination at any institution receiving federal funds.
The total list includes 67 schools; the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond are the schools in Virginia being investigated.

On Wednesday, the University of Richmond released a statement following its addition to the list on Tuesday. It reads, in part:
"The University will fully cooperate with OCR in its investigation of this complaint. At the University of Richmond, the prevention of sexual misconduct is an institutional priority. The University will provide representatives of OCR with detailed information on all that the University has in place to address the issue of sexual misconduct on campus and welcomes any feedback that OCR may have regarding the University's policies and procedures."
