CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -

A Chesterfield boy is in police custody, after he allegedly shot a dog at point-blank range Thursday.

Details are limited, but according to police, the incident occurred in the 13000 block of Thornridge Lane in Brandermill, near Hull Street and Old Hundred Roads.

The boy and an adult were arguing, police say; this escalated into the boy shooting a Rottweiler.

Although he ran from the scene, police caught up with him about four miles away on Spring Gate Court and took him into custody.
