16 Year Old Has Been Indicted On Murder Charges For Killing Marty Cobb

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The case against a teenager accused of killing a Richmond boy earlier this year appeared in court Monday morning.

Mairese Washington, 16, has been indicted on murder charges for killing Marty Cobb. Cobb's family says he was killed while trying to protect his sister from being assaulted.

According to family members, Marty and his sister were playing near some railroad tracks in their backyard on the 200 block of Brandon Road on the evening of Thursday, May 1 when a man walking on the tracks sexually assaulted the girl and cut her face. Marty tried to intervene, but was killed instantly when the suspect threw a rock at his head. The girl was hospitalized following the incident, but survived the alleged attack. Richmond Police detectives identified and located Washington within hours of the crime.

In June, a judge ruled Washington would be tried as an adult. He is also charged with strangulation and malicious wounding against Marty's sister.
