The City of Richmond is opening two cooling shelters to help residents escape the extreme heat slated to blanket our area the next few days.

Both of these shelters will be open from 11 a.m. To 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday:

Southside Community Services Center: 4100 Hull Street Road

Department of Social Services: 900 East Marshall Street

Please note: No food will be served at the shelters, and no outside food can be brought in. Pets are also not allowed inside the shelters.

If you can't get to one of the shelters but need a place to cool down, go to a local mall or a public library.
