An early morning police pursuit ended when a man crashed crashed his car into a tree while fleeing from police Wednesday.
At about 1:50 a.m. on July 9, a Virginia State Police trooper tried to pull over a Nissan 280 for speeding; radar indicated that the car was traveling 84 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone on Interstate 64 near mile marker 185 in Henrico.
Ignoring the troopers flashing emergency lights, the driver of the Nissan sped up and fled from police. The car exited the highway at Glenside Road and then turned onto Forest Avenue.
Soon after, the driver lost control of the car, ran off the road and struck a tree.
The car's driver, Edward Patlan of Richmond, 21, as well as a passenger, Mitchell Lindsey of Henrico, 20, were both taken into custody without incident.
Patlan was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries; Lindsey was not injured in the crash.
Patlan has been charged with one felony count of eluding police. Lindsey was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Goochland County and charged with drug possession. Both were taken to Henrico County Jail.
Police say additional charges are pending further investigation.
