Hanover County is preparing to welcome thousands of people from across the state for its 36th Annual Hanover Tomato Festival, kicking off on Saturday, July 12.
The fun-filled fest will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pole Green Park (8996 Pole Green Park Ln. Mechanicsville, VA 23116). On Friday, event organizers and participants were setting up tents, assembling rides and getting ready to welcome the crowds.
Traffic is a concern for the area during the event; Hanover Sheriff's Office sent a release ahead of the festival, alerting the public about probable traffic congestion along Pole Green Road between Interstate 295 and Walnut Grove Road.
“We anticipate anywhere between four to six thousand vehicles will travel into this area for this event. Deputies will be directing traffic at key intersections along Pole Green Road, as well as monitoring several others, to ensure traffic flows as quickly and safely as possible,” said Colonel David R. Hines, Sheriff.
The yearly event features a family-friendly atmosphere with a variety ofactivitiess to keep adults and kids entertained. In addition to rides, there will be a petting zoo and plenty of free activity stations. If face painting, cornhole, building blocks and bubble parties sound like fun to you, stop by! There will be over 200 vendors at the Hanover Tomato Festival, as well as plenty of tasty tomato dishes to sample.
