RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Shaka Smart isn't resting on his success.

He's help make VCU men's basketball a nationally regarded program. Smart has a lucrative contract, a $25 million practice facility under construction and a 137-46 career record. The 137 victories in five seasons is tied for the second-most at the Division I level.

To ensure the momentum continues, the 37-year-old Smart has signed a top-20 recruiting class - and he's back on the road again.

Smart is a big fan of the NCAA rule that allows coaches to spend two hours per week working with their team in the summer. He says it gives incoming freshmen a head start on learning how their new team operates, and eases their academic transition because they get to take two college courses before fall semester.
