RICHMOND, Va WRIC - Voters in Virginia's 16th senatorial district have chosen Delegate Rosalyn Dance to represent the democratic party in November's special election.
The Democratic Party of Virginia held the unassembled caucus on Saturday to determine who would serve the rest of the term held by former long term senator, Henry Marsh.
According to a release from the Democratic Party of Virginia, 3,956 residents voted in Saturday's caucus.
The unofficial results show that 1,725 people voted for Rosalyn Dance; 1,375 for Delegate Delores McQuinn; 592 for former Richmond mayor, Rudy McCollum and 108 for Gerry Rawlinson, a local business woman. According to a release from the Democratic Party of Virginia, there were 156 uncounted provisional ballots.
Delegate Rosalyn Dance will face off against independent candidate Preston Brown on November 4th.
The results will be certified in an official canvass of results on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. The deadline for filing nomination papers for candidates with the Virginia department of elections will be by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 15, 2014.
