Acupuncture Combined with Chinese Herbs Can Effectively Complement Weight Loss Programs against Obesity

Maidenhead, UK (August 20, 2014) – A dissertation published recently by RMIT University in Melbourne suggests adding acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment as complement to a weight loss regimen can successfully aid in weight loss and fight against obesity.

The study conducted by Li Kang Xiao found that in a clinical environment, acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help speed up short-term weight loss when combined with proper exercise and diet. Through the research, Li discovered that acupuncture can suppress an excessive appetite for food. It also assists in regulating body metabolism, as well as in reducing BMI, abdominal adipose tissue development, and the production of leptin. The study explains that acupuncture achieves this primarily through the activation of the spleen.

Aside from acupuncture, the paper also recommends complementing a weight loss regimen with daily intake of black tea, as well as a tea blend containing cassia seeds, sophora japonica and camellia sinensis. The tea blend stimulates the immune system and helps control fat and sugars in the blood. The study does recognize that people consuming this tea blend will have to increase their intake of iron to fight against the iron deficiency that this tea blend can cause.

“Acupuncture has many health benefits, including weight loss,” says Tina Rose, spokesperson for OneHealthyLocation.com. “Proper insertion of acupuncture needles is greatly effective in unblocking the flow of energy through the body. With energy flowing freely through the body, the body not only feels better but also becomes healthier and more balanced.”

Rose emphasizes that acupuncture is meant as a complement to any existing weight loss regimen. While it is effective in some level as a standalone treatment, acupuncture works best when coupled with diet, exercise and medication when necessary.
