Posted: Updated:
The upcoming WE CARE festival is meant to empower Northside residents and bring people together in the community for free health and wellness screenings, along with educational information, and school supply giveaways.

WE CARE's organizer Craig Watson and event sponsor, Marks & Harrison's Penn Crawford joined 8News to tell us more about the event.

The family-friendly event brings community organizations, churches and businesses together to empower the Richmond community. WE CARE stands for Wellness, Education, Community Awareness and Resident Empowerment and is sponsored by Marks & Harrison.

The event includes health and wellness screenings, educational information, school supply giveaways, exhibits and food vendors. Children can take part in carnival and moonwalk inflatable games, as well as a financial literacy-geared basketball tournament.

Richmond native and celebrated comedian Antoine Scott will once again serve as host at the festival.

The festival is on Saturday, Aug. 23. and will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hotchkiss Community Center, located at 701 East Brookland Park Boulevard.
