Adam Sandler is a hummus-loving, former Israeli Mossad agent who fakes his own death in the new movie "You Don't Mess with the Zohan."

Sadler trades his UZI for a hair dryer in the US as he chases his real passion -- hair styling.  He starts out washing hair at a salon owned by a Palestinian woman, played by Emmanuelle Chiriqui.  And, before you know it, middle-eastern rivalries are being played out in New York City, as a land developer, stirring up trouble between the Israeli and Palestinian immigrants.  John Tuturro stars as Zohan's sworn enemy, an assassin turned fast food restaurant owner, known as the phantom.  Meanwhile, the Zohan has become a hit as a stylist, especially with the older ladies.

With "You Don't Mess with the Zohan," viewers may feel like they keep waiting for the laughs to come... but soon, the credits roll.  Zohan had some potential, but the character fits more into the realm of Sandler's "Saturday Night Live" repertoire - where a character is kind of funny for five minutes, but not worthy of an entire film.  The jokes that do come, tend to fall somewhere between obvious and pathetic... or are related to hummus.

I've been a fan of "50 First Dates," "The Water Boy" and "Happy Gilmore," but don't even mess with trying to see "You Don't Mess with the Zonah."  Viewers will be disappointed.

This movie earns 1 ½ out of 4 stars.
