40 bags of ‘El Chapo’ heroin found inside woman’s bra

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police in Springfield, Massachusetts police arrested a suspected drug dealer and his alleged customer who they say had 40 bags of “El Chapo”-stamped heroin in her bra.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, Derek H. Michalczyk, 28, of Indian Orchard, and Stephanie Targonski, 26, of Ludlow were arrested following a surveillance operation by narcotics detectives.

Delaney says that around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night, the detectives were scoping out the corner of St. James Avenue and Carew Street, which has been a popular location for people selling heroin and cocaine. At that corner, the detectives saw a woman, later identified as Targonski, sitting inside her car at the CVS parking lot, but not going inside.

“The female was constantly on her phone and looking around like she was waiting for someone,” Delaney wrote on the department’s official Facebook page.

Police followed the woman after she left the parking lot and drove to the gas station at St. James Avenue and Tapley Street, where she pulled up to a gas pump, but didn’t pump any gas. Delaney says she later pulled behind the gas station, where another car had also just pulled up. He says detectives watched as Targonski received heroin from the man in the other car, later identified as Michalczyk. The two drove off in different directions, and police pulled both of them over and arrested them.

Delaney says that Targonski had 40 bags of heroin, which was stamped with the name of the notorious Mexican drug lord “El Chapo,” hidden inside her bra. Michalczyk also allegedly had 24 bags of “El Chapo” heroin on him.

Michalczyk is charged with distribution of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Targonski is charged with possession of heroin. Both were held at the Springfield police station overnight, and will be arraigned Thursday in Springfield District Court.

Heroin packets are often stamped with names of current news figures and words from cultural trends. For instance, Springfield police seized bags of heroin stamped with the name and likeness of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Some other recent heroin seizures included packets with stamps reading “NBA,” “Big 10,” and “TMT Mayweather.”
