Alex Thorson joined the 8News team in February of 2019. She joins us from our Nexstar sister station in Panama City, Florida.
Alex grew up in a suburb outside of St. Paul, Minnesota where later attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to pursue a degree in Professional Journalism and a Political Science minor. In college, she interned at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis and at the San Diego Community News Network in San Diego, California. Alex was also the host of Between Two Gophers, a fun talk show ran by a University of Minnesota student group called Studio U. In addition, she worked as an after-school Broadcast Journalism Instructor at a local middle school in the city.
Most recently, while reporting in Florida, she was a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The northern native is now excited to pursue new volunteer opportunities and get involved in the central Virginia community.
Alex loves consuming stories in all forms: television, movies, books, podcasts, music, dance, you name it! She has always loved to sing and perform. Alex spends a lot of her time checking out new restaurants, going to yoga, and meeting new people. Don’t be shy, say hi!
