Dean Mirshahi joined WRIC-TV in February 2018 as a Digital Content Producer before moving into a reporter role in 2020. Since arriving, Dean has played a lead role in the station’s election coverage, reported on state and local politics and has worked on several investigations, including on the conditions at a ICE detention center in Farmville at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dean drove WRIC’s digital coverage in the wake of the political turmoil that engulfed Gov. Ralph Northam, AG Mark Herring and Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax in 2019, breaking stories online and helping the station win first place in the ‘Continuing Coverage’ category for “Capitol in Crisis.”
Born in Texas, Dean grew up in Henrico County and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University. He wrote for the Herald-Progress in Hanover before joining WRIC.
