Deanna Allbrittin took her seat at the 8News anchor desk in May 2021. Before joining the news team in Richmond, she was a reporter and fill-in anchor at WFTV in Orlando, Florida.
While in Orlando, Deanna produced hard-hitting, data-driven, investigative and special reports for the station’s 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts. She received an Emmy nomination for a series of investigative stories on high water bills for people living in apartments and predatory leasing in affordable housing.
She also covered several national stories including reporting from Florida’s Space Coast on America’s return to manned space flight.
Deanna was previously a reporter and fill-in anchor at WXIN/WTTV in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she won various awards for her investigations into lawmakers’ mishandling of funds meant to fix the city’s aging streets, the state’s inaction against a nursing home operator with hundreds of neglect complaints and failures by wireless providers during 911 calls that led to serious injuries and deaths.
Prior to Indianapolis, Deanna worked at WFIE in Evansville, Indiana, as a morning anchor and reporter.
She’s a graduate of Indiana University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism.
While in Indianapolis, Deanna created a live community food drive competition that earned state Associated Press awards and continues today, with more than 200,000 pounds of food now donated annually during the high school football season.
That community project aligns with one of her passions – volunteering with programs focused on reducing food insecurity. And as a self-professed bookworm, she’s also worked on projects through schools and libraries improving childhood literacy rates and reducing the achievement gap for lower-income students.
