Emma North joined the 8News team in July 2020 as a Digital Content Producer.
She was born in Newport News, Virginia and grew up near Yorktown in a little town called Seaford.
Emma attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she majored in Mass Communications with a concentration in Digital Journalism and minored in Environmental Studies. During college, Emma wrote for VCU’s student paper the Commonwealth Times. She also participated in the Capital News Service both as a contributing writer in Fall 2019 and as the social media editor in Spring 2020. Emma was a member of the VCU Honors College and participated in their summer research program.
Prior to joining the 8News team, Emma worked as a communications assistant at Union Presbyterian Seminary and completed marketing internships with RVA Hospitality and Yoga Source.
Before settling into the digital desk Emma worked as a summer camp counselor on and off for five years and interned for Shalom Farms. You can still find her outside during her time off whether it be on a rock by the James River or running down one of Richmond’s trails.
If she’s at home Emma is probably hanging out with her cat Junie B.
When she’s on the job you can look out for Emma’s push alerts in the evening and the latest breaking news. Feel free to send your story ideas or favorite hiking trails to enorth@wric.com!
