Jessica Wetzler joined the WRIC newsroom as a news producer in November 2021.
Prior to her role as a producer, Jessica was a general assignment reporter at the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She spent three years at the Daily News-Record, covering everything from Rockingham County government and the county’s seven towns to agriculture. Her agricultural reporting helped the DN-R earn the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s Journalism Award for a daily newspaper in 2019 and 2021, and the Ishee-Quann Award for Media Excellence in 2019.
Jessica graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in December 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in print-online journalism and a minor in creative writing. During her time at VCU, she interned at The Henrico Citizen and Richmond Magazine. During her final semester, she served as sports editor for The Commonwealth Times, a student-run independent newspaper at VCU.
Jessica is a native to the Richmond area and a Midlothian High School graduate. When the opportunity to come back home was presented, she was quick to accept the challenge of transitioning from the days of the newspaper scene to a TV newsroom.
When she’s not putting together our shows, you can find Jessica visiting local wineries and breweries or sharing too many photos of her cat, Jackie, on social media.
