Katie Dupree is back on the 8News team part-time as a meteorologist.
Before living in Virginia, Katie grew up in Michigan. She was always the child to turn on The Weather Channel or the local news before school instead of cartoons. That love of weather never went away, so she decided to job shadow a local meteorologist in Detroit and knew right then and there that she wanted to pursue broadcast meteorology. She graduated with a degree in Meteorology from Central Michigan University in 2010. While she was still a student, she interned at local TV station 9&10 News in Cadillac, Michigan, which has the largest viewing area East of the Mississippi, serving 26 counties in Northern Michigan and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. After graduating, she took the spot of the weekend meteorologist at 9&10, Northern Michigan’s News Leader. Katie stayed at 9&10 News for two and a half years, covering everything from the challenges of lake effect snow, to ice and severe weather. She was hired to be the weekend meteorologist at WRIC in July of 2013, and she’s been in the Richmond area ever since. She spent several years as the weekend evening meteorologist and alongside Matt DiNardo as a traffic reporter on Good Morning Richmond, doing weather for 8News at noon. She came to Good Morning Richmond full-time in 2015, and moved to the anchor desk in 2018.
Katie left in December of 2021 for a job at the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, where she still works. Her new job allows her to spend more time with her two year old daughter Olivia and husband Chris. She has come back to the 8News team part-time to fill in on weekends.
