Owen Fitzgerald

Owen Fitzgerald joined the WRIC newsroom as a news producer in August 2021. Prior to his role as a producer, Owen was a staff writer at the Independent-Messenger newspaper in Emporia, Virginia. Owen says he was looking for a change of pace professionally, and the excitement and spontaneity of a TV newsroom felt like the place to challenge himself.

Owen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Commonwealth University in December 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in print-online journalism. During his final semester at VCU, he was honored with the prestigious Faculty Award; selected by his professors as the most promising graduate in his concentration. He was also selected by his professors as the lone student speaker at his graduation ceremony. Owen occasionally wrote for the university’s paper, The Commonwealth Times.

Owen is a lifelong native of the Greater Richmond Area. Born and raised a quick trip up I-95 in Hanover County, he moved to the city when he was 19. He loves Richmond for its diversity and culture. When he’s not putting together our shows, you can find Owen at one of Richmond’s many breweries with his close friends or waiting in line for a concert at the National.
