Here’s what you can buy tax-free in Virginia this weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia’s annual sales tax holiday is August 3-5, 2018. During the tax holiday, you can buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, shoes, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products without paying sales tax. 

That includes school supplies that cost $20 or less and clothing or shoes that cost $100 or less per item. Some emergency preparedness items that cost less than $60 each will also be tax-free. Price limits are higher for items like generators.

  • Tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, plastic drop cloths, and other flexible waterproof sheeting
  • Bungee cords, rope, and paracords
  • Ground anchor systems or tie-down kits
  • Ratchet straps
