LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Are you ready to do some pedaling?

8News Daytrippers takes us to Belle Isle, and not the one in downtown Richmond. This is a Virginia State Park about two hours north and east of Richmond in Lancaster County in the Northern Neck.

It’s a state park that offers a little something for everyone who likes to be outdoors. It is also a cyclist’s paradise.

Belle Isle State Park is more than 800 acres with biking and hiking trails crisscrossing each other through all kinds of terrain including wetlands, farmland, and tidal forests.

Anchor Morgan Dean and his family, along with some friends, took a trip there over Memorial Day weekend to check it out.

Morgan says his kids loved the bike riding almost as much as they like searching for geocaches. They love treasure hunting by way of GPS coordinates and had no problem finding several boxes of hidden treasures.

His daughter Stella was chief treasure hunter for the trip.

“What do you have, Stella?” Morgan asked.

“We found a geocache!” Stella responded.

On top of small trinkets, they also found an RVA Rocks, painted rock and were looking forward to passing it on.

If biking or hiking are not your things, there are plenty of other things to do at the park.

There are seven miles of shoreline along the Rappahannock River in Belle Isle State Park. You can do some fishing from the pier and there’s a boat launch, too. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and Stand-Up Paddleboards at the camp store on site.

If you’re looking to do more than just a day trip, you can also spend the night at one of the park’s many campsites — either in a tent or a camper. There’s also a bunkhouse for rent if you want the cabin experience.
