RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News teamed up once again with Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia to help grant wishes for area children battling critical illnesses.
There are currently 49 children in Central Virginia waiting for their wish; about 80 percent of those involve air travel. A ‘wish child’ gets to take their entire immediate family on their dream trip.
This year 969,674 miles were donated by viewers.
8News hosted the ‘Wishes in Flight’ telethon from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
The number of miles raised will help Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia reach their goal of granting 179 life-changing wishes for local kids this year.
Last year, our ‘Wishes in Flight’ telethon secured 728,803 miles in donations.
Once donated to Make-A-Wish, the miles never expire.
Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia has been granting wishes locally since August 1987 and has granted more than 5,000 wishes. The average cost of a wish is $10,000 and we are entirely donor funded’ — Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia
