RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — You can experience the words and stories of Zora Neale Hurston is a whole new way. 

‘Songs For Janie’ is a musical and theatrical interpretation of the novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God.”  

Tamara Wellons gives voice to the coming-of-age story of Janie Crawford, the central character in Zora Neale Hurston’s seminal novel, “Their Eyes Were Watching God” — about womanhood, independence, and self-worth. 

It started out as an album of songs but has evolved to include a theatrical stage element. You can learn more about the show and get tickets here.
