CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va, (WRIC) — The Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office 32nd Basic Academy Recruits cleaned up the Belcher Family Cemetery this week.
The recruits were able to clear about 50 years of growth to reveal two graves.
The graves belonged to fallen Sheriff Deputy Archer Thomas Belcher and his wife, Mary Dance Belcher.
Deputy Belcher was a local farmer who was mortally wounded in January 1912. He never recovered from his wounds and died in a local hospital twenty-six days later.
He was temporarily employed as a part-time deputy.
