Petersburg grads earn double degrees

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Petersburg High School seniors, Amaya Comvalius and Antonio Duperior-White, will receive two degrees this month, a High School diploma and a 2-year Associate of Science degree from Richard Bland College of William & Mary,

Comvalius and Duperior-White were enrolled in the "Middle College Program", a partnership between Richard Bland College and Petersburg City Public Schools for qualified juniors who qualify for college-level Math and English courses.

"Through clearly articulated educational pathways with partners like Petersburg High School, students like Mr. Duperior-White and Ms. Comvalius are able to secure an affordable, prestigious college degree that sets their course for future success," said RBC President Debbie L. Sydow. Petersburg School Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome added, "Our ongoing partnership with Richard Bland demonstrates that Petersburg students can accomplish anything if we believe in them and provide opportunities and support as they work to achieve their dreams. We are proud of Antonio and Amaya."

Duperior-White will transfer in the fall to VCU to major in Sociology, with plans to earn a Master's Degree in Forensic Science for a career with the FBI.

Comvalius, who will transfer in the fall to Hampton University to major in Psychology with a minor in Communications.
