HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Did you hear? A handful of local middle school students turned podcast extraordinaires could have their voices broadcasted across the national airwaves.

NPR held its first ever ‘Student Podcast Challenge,’ and several students from L. Douglas Wilder Middle School — Gabby Addotey, Menna Dawelbeit, Zoe Pascale, Abigail Wang, Stella Earnhardt-Baldwin and Hailey McDonough — took home an honorable mention in grades 5-8 for their podcast, ‘Too Cool For Year-Round School.’

The students’ work was chosen out of nearly 6,000 contest entries from students across the country. The winning entries are currently being broadcast, and NPR says it will broadcast some of the other entries that they enjoyed in the coming weeks.
