Hundreds of kids meet Olympians, enjoy swimming at Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club event

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Nearly 250 children attended “Splash Day” at The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Richmond’s East End on Tuesday.

The event, organized with the help of SwimRVA, USA Swimming, TYR and students from VCU’s Center for Sport Leadership, allowed the children to ask two Olympians, Simone Manuel and Maritza McClendon, questions about their lives.

The kids also did team building and goal setting activities with Manuel and McClendon. Some lucky swimmers even got to swim in a relay with the two Olympians.

The children that took part in the event came from the Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School, Henrico Police Athletic League, St. Andrew’s School, Peter Paul Development Center and Franklin Military Academy.
