“It’s about culture”: Urban Hang Suite cafe opens in Jackson Ward

Positively Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) —- A local woman is brewing up a deeper conversation in the Richmond community.

Kelli Lemon just opened Urban Hang Suite, a new social cafe in Jackson Ward. The shop is named after R&B and soul singer Maxwell’s first album, which Lemon said fit the vibe of the type of establishment she wanted to create.

Lemon said the idea for Urban Hang Suite goes beyond just a typical coffee shop.

“This is all about community. It’s about culture and it’s all about grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting beside someone that you don’t know,” Lemon said.

Several local representatives attended the shop’s official opening, including Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, who said revitalization is happening in downtown Richmond.

“It’s just a good time to do some things in the city and more importantly, let’s socially connect in the city to take each other to another level,” Stoney said.

Urban Hang Suite is now open on East Broad Street.
