Richmond, Va. (WRIC) — The Next Move Program received a $20,000 dollar donation from the SunTrust Foundation.
The Next Move Program provides internships, job, and vocational training to people with disabilities.
The money will help fund the organization’s ‘tABLEspoon Bakery Program,’ a program that teaches participants culinary skills.
Their ultimate goal is to build a brick and mortar bakery in the Richmond area. It’ll serve as a training site for participants.
Organizers hope it’ll give the city a space to celebrate inclusion and diversity.
The organization says 70 percent of people with disabilities are unemployed in the Commonwealth.
But, 80 percent of their graduates have gained employment or acceptance to post-secondary programming.
Participants from the tABLEspoon Bakery Program sell their sweet treats at the South of the James Farmers Market every Saturday.
