RPD/YMCA hold “shop with a cop” event

Positively Richmond

RICHMOND Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police Department partners with the Metro Richmond YMCA, and Target for the 26th annual “Shop with a Cop” event.

As part of the YMCA’s Bright Beginnings Program, “Shop with a Cop” pairs Richmond City youth with a Richmond police officer to go shopping for the upcoming school year.

The purpose of the program is to build relationships between officers, and the community while helping kids in need. It also allows kids the ability to understand the importance of education, and pushes the Department’s efforts of building a solid foundation of truth with the youth forward.

Bright Beginnings is the largest outreach program, servicing over 2,000 children in Central Virginia.
