Preparations are underway in Richmond for the Southside Big Tent Community Festival.
The two-day event kicks off Friday evening with the Richmond Symphony and a Latin dance band performing under the ‘Big Tent.’
The entertainment continues Saturday with more music, dance, fitness classes and face painting for the kids.
The event, which is being put on by the Richmond Symphony, is free but donations are encouraged. The money will benefit music programs for 8th and 9th graders in Richmond Public Schools.
Richmond City Councilman Michael Jones says music is an outlet for creativity and be a great benefit to students.
“Music allows us to escape, music allows us to think and music allows us to embrace different cultures and different people that we never met before,” he said.
The festival will be held at Southside Community Center.
There is free shuttle service to the event from Celebration Church and the Manchester YMCA. For more information and the schedule of events, click here.
