SUTHERLAND, Va. (WRIC) — Walmart celebrated a loyal employee on Wednesday who has driven over 3 million miles after 27 years with the company.

Bill Steed, of Warfield, was given the option of getting a new custom Peterbilt truck or $10,000.

Steed, who will be retiring on July 1, chose the money.

Steed was asked about the fondest time he had with the company. He said it was the day he was hired.

“I was driving for a company that I didn’t enjoy, and that’s when I got the call from Walmart,” Steed said, “I had applied, and they asked me if I was still interested in driving for Walmart? I said, ‘Yes sir,’ and he said congratulations!”

Steed is unsure of his plans after retirement but has a few ideas.

“My wife just told me to just relax,” said Steed, “I’m sure she’ll find something for me to do. We’ll probably just do some camping, and kick back a little bit.”
