(WRIC) — Alex Trebek says he’s winning his cancer battle.

The “Jeopardy!” host revealed in a new interview with People magazine that he is “near remission.”

Trebek, 78, said that some of the tumors have “shrunk by almost 50 percent” and noted that even his doctors are surprised at how well he’s doing.

“It’s kind of mind-boggling,” Trebek told People. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory.”

Trebek went public with his Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis in March. In a video, he vowed to “fight” the disease.

The game show host told People that he is still undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but cried “tears of joy” when he found out how well he’s been responding to treatment.

He also credited his fans for their “good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers” for helping him through such a tough time.

“I told the doctors, ‘This has to be more than just the chemo,’ and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayer, and I will never ever minimize the value of that.”
