37 displaced from early-morning house fire in Nags Head

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) – Thirty-seven people were displaced from a fire early Tuesday morning that affected two homes on South Virginia Dare Trail in Nags Head.

Emergency dispatchers received a call from a house at 3:11 a.m.

Crews were able to protect other nearby homes from the flames, but one of the homes was destroyed in the fire. The other home sustained damage to its siding.

Viewer video from the scene showed the aftermath of the damage to both homes.

Officials say Nags Head police officers helped 37 people evacuate to safety from the two homes.

Another video taken by a 10 On Your Side viewer showed several units on scene battling the flames overnight.

Officials say crews from Kill Devil Hills, Colington, Kitty Hawk, Roanoke Island, Manns Harbor and Southern Shores responded to the scene Tuesday.

The Red Cross has been contacted to help those displaced from the fire.

An investigation into what caused the fire is underway by the Dare County Fire Marshal, with help from the Nags Head police and fire departments.
