HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Three women have been arrested as state and local authorities investigate reports of assault and child abuse at a daycare facility in Henrico County.
The three women — Latoya Scott, Tanya Dawson and Samantha Tolson — were all arrested over the weekend for interfering with a social services representative and face a stack of 21 charges amongst them.
Dawson faces additional charges for assault, child abuse or neglect and operating without a license. Tolson was also arrested for operating without a license and lying to a commission representative.
Police say their investigation began after a report of child abuse at the Little People Academy on Brook Road. They say their investigation coincided with a separate investigation by the Department of Social Services and Child Protective Services.
On Monday at the Little People Academy, there was nothing left inside; only walls painted with animals on them.
According to a business owner nearby, everything was moved out over the weekend and the daycare hasn’t operated in roughly a month.
8News also reached out to the women arrested. None of them responded.
According to a man at the home of Latoya Scott, she was at work and was “caught up in something she didn’t have or want anything to do with.”
Attempts to contact the state departments involved in the investigation were not successful.
