Crash on wet I-295 NB kills Ashland woman, police say

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Wet roadway conditions are considered a factor in a Friday afternoon crash on Interstate-295 that claimed the life of an Ashland woman.

It happened on northbound I-295 at the 38-mile marker just after 12:30 p.m. 

Police say a 2008 Mazda 3, driven by, Tonya Tomlin Barnette, 35, of Ashland, was traveling northbound on I-295 when she lost control, ran off the road and overturned in the median.  

Barnette, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing her seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.  She died at the scene.
 
Wet roadway conditions is being considered one of the causal factors of the crash.  The crash remains under investigation.
