Video shows moments before train strikes man in Richmond

Breaking News

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police say a man is fighting for his life after being struck by an Amtrak train Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the 1800 block of Broad Rock Blvd. around 12:45 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim and a scooter. Both had been struck by the train, police added.

8News has obtained exclusive surveillance video of the moments leading up to the crash.

A witness told 8News that the road was slick prior to the crash and may have been a contributing factor to the accident.

The witness added that as the man approached the tracks on the scooter, he fell and slid onto them. That person added that the man was struggling when he tried to get up and pick up his scooter as the train approached.

Seconds later, the train struck the man and the scooter, sending both into the grass near the tracks.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His identification is unknown at this time.

This is now the third train involved in a crash in Richmond this year. The previous crashes were derailments with no injuries.
