NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a Blackstone man who was found murdered inside his home in December.
Police say the daughter of 82-year-old Leslie Crews found her father shot to death inside his Poplar Lawn Road home on December 2. Neighbors told 8News Crews had been shot in the head.
On Tuesday, Nottoway County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Leanne Watrous said two men — Kyle Bryant Wilmoth and Jerome James Lawrence — have been charged in connection with Crews’ death.
Wilmoth has been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery, breaking and entering and grand larceny of a firearm.
Lawrence is charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, receiving a stolen firearm, possession with intent to distribute more than a half ounce but less than five pounds of marijuana and possession of a Schedule I/II substance.
While investigating Crews’ death, police discovered several items had been taken from his home.
Crews was loved by not only his family and neighbors — but also his church.
“The community is in shock,” one of Crews’ neighbors, Colonel Hobbs, said. “He was just a good person. Quiet man who went about his everyday work.”
“It’s going to sting for a long time, to be honest with you,” added Bruce Rhew, pastor at Grace Baptist Temple. “I’m not sure this is something that people will get over.”
