Divorce papers shed light on murder suspect’s relationship with estranged wife

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Court documents filed with Chesterfield County Circuit Court show that the man accused of shooting his estranged wife and murdering her boyfriend in Chesterfield County last lived together in April.

According to divorce papers obtained by 8News, 44-year-old Joshua Federico — who is listed as the plaintiff — accuses his estranged wife, Sarah Federico, of adultery.

In her cross-complaint, S. Federico accuses her husband of “extreme cruelty,” along with trying to ruin her financially and stealing her money.

Court documents filed with Chesterfield County Circuit Court show that the man accused of shooting his estranged wife and murdering her boyfriend in Chesterfield County last lived together in April.

Records show that the two were married August 31, 2012.

J. Federico was taken into custody Sunday after a three-day search, hours after being spotted at a Publix in the 13700 block of Hull Street Road. Multiple sightings were reported in the surrounding Deer Run community.

Police say he was found in an abandoned structure.

He’s accused of critically injuring his wife in an early morning shooting at her home on Second Branch Road, where she lived with her boyfriend, 38-year-old Lawrence J. Howell, whose remains were found near the home. J. Federico has been charged with murdering him. 

J. Federico will be arraigned on that charge of first-degree murder on Tuesday.
