HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities are investigating in Henrico County after an unknown individual snatched two packages off of two porches in the Libbie Mill Midtown development.
On Thursday, police were notified reported thefts in the Henrico neighborhood after two homeowners shared surveillance video of the crimes.
Police told 8News they believe the suspect is a juvenile. He can be seen in surveillance footage wearing a backpack and having earbuds around his neck as he stole the packages from residents’ doorsteps.
8News obtained the video, however, due to the fact police believe he’s a juvenile, have blurred the suspect’s face.
A brown box is quickly swiped off one home’s porch by the suspect. He’s also seen taking a white envelope, in the footage.
The homeowner waiting for the white envelope delivery, posted the video for the neighborhood — sharing the suspect took off with a refrigerator water filter.
A spokesperson for the development said this is the first time this type of thing has happened in the neighborhood.
Gumenick Properties told 8News each unit is sold with a basic security alarm system but homeowners are welcome to add more security, like the doorbell surveillance systems.
A woman moving into the area on Friday told 8News she will be looking into getting an extra layer of protection. Officers were seen patrolling the area on Friday by 8News.
8News was told the Libbie Mill Midtown development hires its own private security detail to patrol every day from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Still, nearly every other home has a doorbell security system, including the model home in the neighborhood.
Henrico Police urge people who believe they recognize the suspect or think their packages have been stolen to contact authorities.
