Henrico childcare worker now accused of sexually abusing 3 children

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Investigators now believe three children at a Henrico County daycare were sexually abused. They’ve arrested a former employee for these crimes.

Rahman Rypkema, who goes by his middle name, ‘Jordan,’ was arraigned in court Thursday morning. 8News was in the courtroom and learned that not only is he accused of abusing two young children, but prosecutors also say more charges are pending in relation to a third victim.

Investigators say the crimes happened while Rypkema was working at Tuckaway Child Development and Early Education Center in Varina. He was fired after the accusations surfaced.

In court, the prosecutor said the victims are just 4- and 5-years-old. She added that more charges were coming because they believe a third child was also sexually abused. The prosecution also believes that Rypkema has a history of this type of behavior.

8News was unable to find any prior convictions for sexual abuse, but six years ago, Rypkema was convicted of bringing a knife onto a school campus in Richmond.

In 2009, Rypkema had aggravated sexual battery, indecent liberties and forcible sodomy charges dismissed in Petersburg court, according to online records.

In 2004, he was arrested for assaulting his own brother.

Rypkema is being held without bond. He’s also ordered not to have any contact with the children involved.
