Hopewell woman charged after police seize drugs, cash and a gun during narcotics raid

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities in Hopewell arrested a 51-year-old woman and seized “dangerous drugs,” a firearm and more than $36,000 in a narcotics raid on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Hopewell Police, a narcotics-related search warrant for a residence in the 2300 block of Maclin Circle was executed by a specialized police team at 3 p.m.

Shelia M. Morse, 51, was arrested after police recovered a firearm, $36,000 in U.S. currency and suspected cocaine, heroin and marijuana 

Morse has been charged with two counts of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while in possession of dangerous drugs and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

“This apprehension is just one example of a new strategic undertaking by our department to disrupt
and dismantle drug distribution operations within the city,” said Detective Lieutenant Paul Intravia. “Through our collaborative efforts with our citizens and law enforcement partners, we will continue to target and remove those criminals that seek to profit by distributing dangerous drugs within our community.”

Morse is being held until her arraignment.
