SALEM, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire say a call from a pizza shop led them to a man’s home and the discovery of his dead mother.
Salem police tell WMUR-TV a pizza deliveryman said the man wouldn’t open his door for the pizza and would only accept it through a window. He also said he noticed blood on the man.
The pizza shop owner said the man had been ordering food for months on a regular basis, but in the past week or so, the quantity of food ordered increased, and then the man would call and hang up multiple times.
The owner, Jack Johnson, became concerned, and asked drivers to keep a close watch on the matter.
Police said the scene inside the house was one of the worst hoarding situations they had seen. They said they had to cut a hole in the house to get the man out.
Police said they found the body of the man’s mother, who was in her 80s and had lived in the home with her son. Police said the body had been there for some time, and neighbors said they hadn’t seen the woman in more than a year. It wasn’t immediately known how she died.
The attorney general’s office and police are investigating.
