GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A New Zealand citizen was shot in the neck in Goochland County today after allegedly attempting to break into a home.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., deputies responded to a call of a shooting on Steeplechase Parkway in central Goochland. At around the same time, a second caller to 911 informed authorities that his wife had called him about a man attempting to break into their home.
Once deputies arrived on the scene, they found a white man in the front yard of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.
The subject, identified as Troy George Skinner, was treated at the scene and taken to VCU Medical Center.
Further investigation revealed that Skinner, a 25-year old citizen of New Zealand, had forced entry into a residence, occupied by a woman and her two teenage daughters.
Skinner apparently attempted to use a brick to break in the home’s rear basement door. At this time, the homeowner warned Skinner she was calling the police and was armed with a handgun.
Skinner, unsuccessful going through the basement, went to the deck of the home and broke the glass of the door with a landscape stone.
Skinner broke through the glass on the door and reached through to unlatch it. The woman with the handgun, unidentified by police, warned Skinner repeatedly before shooting him twice.
Skinner fled the home and fell onto the front yard of a neighbor’s yard.
Skinner, who arrived in the U.S. at Los Angeles International Airport just two days ago, is in custody as charges are pending.
