PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The Petersburg Police Department reported an officer-involved shooting by an officer from the Prince George County Police Department at the Wawa on S. Crater Road.
On Tuesday, the suspect involved was identified by Virginia State Police.
Officials said at 12:40 p.m. police were alerted to an abduction that originated in Sussex County. The suspect abdutected two victims at gunpoint– a 25 year old and a 17 year old.
The suspect, identified by police as 25-year-old Tevin J. Williams, of Petersburg, was driving in a silver Pontiac, was headed north on Interstate-95, according to police.
Police said they responded to the Wawa on Crater Road, which is where they found Williams’ vehicle. Prince George police then requested backup.
During the interaction between police and Williams, shots were fired. Officials said it is unknown if the suspect fired, but they do know police fired shots.
A handgun was located inside Williams’ vehicle, according to Virginia State Police.
Williams fled on foot to a nearby apartment complex while shots were being fired. Petersburg Police caught the suspect and took him into custody without further incident.
The suspect is being treated at VCU Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the shooting.
Two abductees, a 25-year-old and a 17-year-old were not injured in the incident and were in the car when the shots were fired.
No law enforcement officer was injured during the course of the incident.
The investigation is still ongoing and Prince George County’s Chief of Police asked the Virginia State Police take over the officer involved shooting. Sussex County will be handling the abduction investigation.
Williams is now in custody of Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office while being treated at VCU Medical Center. He being held without bond on an outstanding Chesterfield County arrest warrant.
