CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police have arrested and charged the woman who allegedly drove off after striking a child with her SUV in the parking lot of a Chesterfield-area shopping center back in  February.

The woman has been identified as Tarrish D. Mashore, 51, of the 6100 block of Leopold Circle.

The hit-and-run occurred at the Irongate Village Shopping Center in the 6400 block of Iron Bridge Place, according to police.

The 3-year-old girl ran out in front of a vehicle in the parking lot and was struck. The child suffered only minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, police said.

“It’s sad that something like that would occur and she would just walk off,” said Kenneth Simon, a Chesterfield resident.

Police said Mashore made sure the child was OK but didn’t stick around to wait for police.

People who frequent the shops at the Iron Gate shopping center told 8News back in February they were surprised and upset to learn of the crime.

“That’s a no-no,” said Brian Verkay, of Richmond. “You hit anyone, you stay until the police come, especially a small child. You don’t know what he or she is going to do. That was wrong.”

Mashmore was arrested and charged with felony hit and run.
