Police: Suspect, victim in Richmond’s East End homicide case identified


RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A man has been arrested in connection with a homicide and aggravated assault that occurred in the 1600 block of Spotsylvania Street over the weekend. 

On June 16 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Richmond Police responded to a call of a reported shooting in the area of Spotsylvania Street. 

Officers found a man, identified as Tevon M. Cook, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. 

Cook, a 26-year-old man from the 1700 block of Carlisle Avenue, was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Another man was found at the same location suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, unidentified by police, was taken to a hospital with an injury not considered life-threatening.  

Officers detained a man close to the area of the crime scene. The man, identified as Vashawn C. Hill, 26, has been charged with malicious wounding and additional charges related to Cook’s death are pending.
