RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police is investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman.

Authorities said the woman was found unresponsive in an alley on the 600 block of Wickham Street just before midnight on Tuesday. RPD was called to the area for reports of random gunfire.

The victim, now identified as Ashley Wilbert, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details are limited at this time. A death investigation is underway.

Anyone with any information about the shooting can call Major Crimes Detective G. Russell at (804) 646-7715 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

A small memorial has been started in the area where Wilbert was killed. There are balloons there reading “I love you.”

8News spoke with a neighbor in the area who says he heard a man and woman arguing near a car with a flat tire parked on W Graham Road — a street running parallel to Wickam. He then asked them to quiet down.

The neighbor says there were multiple women who advanced toward the man before he stepped back. As the neighbor was calling 911, two gunshots rang out.
