RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond woman was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday for the deadly shooting of a man she was reportedly in a relationship with last year. 

On Sept. 19, 2017, Montez Matthews was found dead in his home, located in the 3300 block of Frank Road. 

Family members, concerned for Matthews, then went to the house and found his body. 

In November 2017, Richmond Police arrested Shatema Kamil Smith and charged her with first-degree murder in connection with Matthews’ death. 

On Nov. 7, Smith was found guilty of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Her sentencing is expected to be on Feb. 22, 2019.
